GAINESVILLE -
Gainesville school board members Monday night selected names
for two elementary schools under construction.
The schools are due to open next fall and by unanimous vote
board members approved West Side and New Holland as the names.
Superintendent Dr. Steve Ballowe said the system drew names
from the public for the Board to approve.
The Board also unanimously approved $6.8-million as the
guaranteed maximum price for construction of New Holland
School on a low bid submitted September 6.

enough.

YEAR BOOK PHOTO FEE
A Gainesville High parent wanted to know why seniors have to
pay $32 for their picture in the year book when underclassmen
don't have to pay.
During Monday night's regular school board meeting Bonnie
Oliver said she was shocked.
School board members said they knew nothing about the photo
fee and Superintendent Dr. Steve Ballowe said he would look
into it.
"NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND"
Gainesville's school superintendent said the federal law known
as "No Child Left Behind" needs a lot of fine tuning.
The comment period on the new law is underway and educators
across Georgia are commenting, among them Gainesville School
Superintendent Dr. Steve Ballowe.
Ballowe said states taking a rigorous approach to finding
sub-standard schools get penalized.
"The data is exceptionally flawed," said Dr. Ballowe. "When
one looks at sees that Georgia has 678 schools identified, and
neighboring states have as low as zero in Arkansas to 16 in
South Carolina you something is wrong." |
