CHD and Abdominal Measurements

Abdominal Diameter is a strong predictor of Coronary Heart Disease.  A  long term study from Kaiser Permanente shows that higher abdominal measurements are related to increases in CHD.  This was a 12 year study of 101,765 men and women. The subjects were multiracial .

Men  with the largest abdomens had a 42 % increase in CHD and women with the largest abdomens had a 44 % increase in CHD.  Other studies have also shown that waist to hip ratios are strong indicators of CHS.
