STUDENT ENROLLMENT
PROCEDURES FOR PHOENIX ACADEMY
-
The
potential Phoenix Academy program
student needs to register for school in the Gainesville City
Schools through the International Center.
-
The
International Center will determine if the student is a
candidate for the Phoenix Academy program
and to what base school they are assigned.
(Older
students seeking a specialized diploma will not be assigned to a
base school.)
-
Laura
Herrington, ESOL Director, will meet with
the student and their parent/guardian to inform them about the
Phoenix program. At
this point, the family will decide if the student wants to
enroll in the Phoenix program
or at their assigned base school, Gainesville Middle or High
School. The family has the option of this decision.
-
Once
decided, the student will take their packet of registration
materials from the International Center to their assigned base
school. (If the base school contends the placement that has
been made, an appeal must be made to Curtis Bibb, Assistant
Superintendent of Administrative Services, who will then make
the final placement decision.)
-
The base
school will enroll them as an Active student in PowerSchool.
· They
will be assigned a student number.
· Their
class schedule will be a ¾ day at the Phoenix Academy facility, with
lunch and a last period elective/exploratory at their assigned base
school.
· Their
homeroom teacher will be a Phoenix Academy program
teacher.
· The
student will be given their handbook, bus information and any other
pertinent material as any mainstream student in their assigned
school.
· The
student will be expected to follow the rules and regulations of
their base school.
