Enota Media Center

Media Specialist: Andrea Gilbert (andrea.gilbert@gcssk12.net)
Media Clerk: Becky Parsons (becky.parsons@gcssk12.net)
Weekly Volunteer: Marilyn Thomas
Purpose:
Enota’s media center provides a range of learning opportunities for both large and small groups and for individuals. The focus is on improving the learning process, with emphasis on intellectual content, inquiry, and the learner. Learners are encouraged to read, view, listen, construct, and create in order to learn in their own way. The center program is a cooperative venture in which the media specialist, teachers, and administrators work together to provide opportunities for the social, cultural, and educational growth of all students.

Programs:

  1. Enota’s media center partners with the Hall County Library to encourage summer reading. All students who participate enjoy a recognition party upon return to school in the fall.
  2. Birthday Club: parents may remember their child’s birthday with the purchase of a book for the media center. Permanent bookplates are placed inside each book with the name and birthday of the honored student. Birthday parties are held twice yearly.
  3. Accelerated Reader program is maintained by the media center. Individual goals are set with incentives provided by the classroom teacher.
  4. Enota participates and votes in the Georgia Book Awards Program sponsored by the University of Georgia. The Media Specialist attends the Conference on Children’s Literature yearly where the winners are announced.
  5. RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) is a grant Enota receives in which each student receives three free books yearly.
  6. The Media Center promotes Read Across America in March in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. NEA sponsors this in hopes that every child in America will read a book on that day.
  7. Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl-a team of fourth and fifth grade high-level readers participates by reading the Georgia Book Award storybook nominee books and competes in a state bowl.
  8. The media center provides two book fairs yearly.
  9. Enota’s Media Center conducts monthly story time with community PreK programs which is in conjunction with the Gainesville City Schools Pre-K Partnership. Those participating have been Northeast Georgia Medical Center Pre-K, First Presbyterian Church Pre-K, and Kid’s Quest Pre-K.
