Lanier Pointe Park Softball Fields– Go Highway 53 West past the mall and Publix. You will pass McDonald's on your left. There will be a BP Station on the right. Turn left onto Lanier Valley Road. Continue to the entrance to Lanier Pointe Park. Go to the end of the road for the softball fields.

The dedication of the P.K. Dixon Field House at Bobby Gruhn Field in City Park will be on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 6:00 pm. The public is invited to attend.
Gainesville High School football season tickets will be available for purchase at the school’s main office from 11 am to 2 pm each weekday. Tickets are $50.00 and cover admission to each of the Red Elephants’ five home games.

The GHS Junior Class is sponsoring a tailgate on Thursday, August 30 from 5-7 at the Green Street Pool Parking Lot. It will be catered by the Varsity. A large meal (2 hotdogs, choice of fries or onion rings, and a soft drink) is $8.00 and a small meal (1 hotdog, choice of fries or onion rings, and a soft drink) is $6.50. Fried apple and peach pies are available for $3.00 each. th at the event center of the new Scott’s on the Square (the old Pilgrim-Estes Building on Bradford. The first two year’s contribution to the Gainesville City sports programs has been around $50,000. Northeast Georgia History will have their August Family Day on August 19 from 1-4 pm. The theme is
The Cherokee of Northeast Georgia. Activities include shooting a bow and arrow, making dart and blowgun, sample Cherokee foods, pounding corn, and more. There will be a Scavenger Hunt which begins at 2:00 pm. Exhibits are the Cherokee alphabet/syllabary, the seven Eastern Cherokee clans, and pre-tribal Georgians. You are invited to visit the Land of Promise in the galleries and Chief White Path’s cabin, which has recently been restored to represent the early 1800’s. Free admission is courtesy of North Georgia Eye Clinic and Laser Center.
Beginning in August, the History Center is offering a new series of hands-on classes or workshops focusing on skills and practices from the past. We are pleased to announce that Dean Smith, folk naturalist, is the instructor. Classes are scheduled for the 3
rdSaturday morning, beginning at 10 a.m., August through December, 2012. Each class has a different topic. Register in advance to assure your space in the class. Walk-ins are accepted for classes if all spaces are not filled beforehand. There is a fee for attending each class, which covers supplies and other expenses; the fee varies by subject matter. History Center members receive preferential rates for each of the classes. Though the classes are geared toward adults, children older than 10 years are permitted to attend.

For all your runners out there or anyone that has been affected by cancer in any way, please consider participating in the Kickin' Cancer 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run to be held at Crow's Lake on October 13, 2012. It will be inn honor of Norah Cornett (3) who was diagnosed with Type ALL B Leukemia, as well as, Mary Jo Lathrop and Kale Corbett. Norah’s uncle is Steven Cornett currently a teacher at GHS and her grandmother is Linda Cornett, former GCSS teacher. Her great-uncle Steve Wilson is a former GHS football coach. All proceeds will be going towards the fight against Leukemia and Ovarian Cancer. You can sign up on
