Fair Street
School, first established in 1937,
symbolizes the historical effort by the
Gainesville, Georgia community in providing
educational opportunity for all children.
The International Baccalaureate Program
continues this quest by providing a rigorous
academic environment that brings learning to
life through inquiry. Here is a place where
the culture and experience of each child is
woven into the curriculum to enrich the
learning environment. The inclusive
environment and stimulating intellectual
setting produces students who will become
citizens of the world.
The International Baccalaureate
Organization was originally developed to
meet the needs of geographically mobile
students, such as the children of diplomats
or international business executives, who
required academic credentials that were
accepted worldwide. The program design has
captured the interest of public schools to
address increasing globalization of our
economy and society. The Primary Years
Program, designed for the elementary school
years, requires a curricula which promotes
critical thinking skills and international
awareness within the context of advanced,
personalized studies. The Quality Core
Curriculum of Georgia, U. S. and
International Standards, are used in a
program of inquiry teaching. The approach is
designed to develop the whole child by
addressing social, physical, emotional,
cultural, and academic needs. A student
enrolled in the International Baccalaureate
Program will experience...
- teaching and
learning through inquiry, or questioning,
method
- connecting
the curriculum to his/her own experiences
