EastHall High School- Go Jesse Jewel Parkway . Go under I-985. Road changes into Old Cornelia Highway . School will be approximately 2 miles on your right
Franklin Co. High School-Take I-85 North to first Carnesville exit. Turn right. Take a left at dead end. Go part of the way around Town Square . Take Hwy. 145. School will be 2 miles on left.
Johnson High School-Go 985 South to Exit 16 (Oakwood). Go left when you get off the Interstate. Go approximately 1/2 mile to big intersection and take left onto Atlanta Highway . Entrance to school will be just past South Hall Middle School on your right.

Lumpkin Co. High School-Take Highway60 N. to Dahlonega. In Dahlonega, go part of way around Square. Take Highway 19 North. School will be approximately 1 mile on left past middle school on right.
Oconee County High School-Go 985 S. to Exit 16. Go left on Winder Highway (Hwy. 53). Go east on Hwy 53 through Winder. Past Winder, take a right at the golf course. Go approximately 20 miles from Winder. You will cross over Hwy. 316. The High School is on the right (this is still Hwy 53) about 12 miles after you cross Hwy. 316.
Winter Break will be Dec. 19 through Jan. 3. Students will report back to school on January 4, 2012. Faculty and staff will have a choice day on Jan. 3. If they worked on August 2, they will not have to work on Jan. 3. If they did not work on August 2, they will have to come back on Jan. 3.
Reminder
The Gainesville City Board of Education will have a board work session on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. at the School Board Office. The board agenda is located on the district website under School Board Governance and will be available for public viewing on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
The 53
rd Annual Lanierland Basketball Tournament will be Dec. 19-Dec. 23. The first round will be at East Hall High School and the other games will be at Johnson. In the first round, Gainesville girls play Flowery Branch at 9:00 am on Dec. 19 and the boys play Johnson at 1:30 pm. If the girls win they will play the winner of the East Hall/Johnson game on Dec. 20 @ 7:30 pm at Johnson. If they lose, they will play the loser of the East Hall/Johnson game at 3:00 pm at Johnson on Dec. 20. If the boys win, they play the winner of the North Hall/Lakeview game at 6:00 pm at Johnson on Dec. 21. If they lose, they play the loser of the North Hall/Lakeview game on @1:30 on Dec. 21 @ Johnson.
The next Gainesville Middle School Title I Parent Involvement Program will be on January 10 (English Only) at 9:00-10:00. It will also be on Jan. 12 (Spanish Only) at 9:00-10:00 and 5:30 – 6:30.
Meetings will be held in the Media Center. The topic is
12 Ways Busy Parents Can Help Children Succeed on Standardized Tests.
Then on Thursday, Jan. 20 from 9:00 – 10:00 Am and from 5:30 – 6:30 pm, there will be a workshop entitled
Instilling the Desire For Success in Your Child. It also will be in the Media Center
. When it comes to success, it isn’t just a matter of how smart children are, or how much talent they have. If they don’t have the desire to succeed, they probably won’t succeed in school or in anything else.
Voluntary conditioning for girls’ high school soccer is Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school. They will have tryouts on January 23rd.
Please consider joining the Gainesville Booster Club. The Booster Club provided approximately $10,000 in funds last school year to the GCSS classrooms and sports that were not sanctioned by GHSA. The Hall County Quilt Guild is sponsoring the 2012 Chicken Festival Quilt Show Contest for students grades 5-12. The Show will be April 28 at the Georgia Mountain Center. Students are encouraged to create a quilt wall hanging 20 inches by 20 inches. The quilt must represent the quilter as a chicken. For ex., a quilter who is a bus driver makes her quilt of a chicken driving a school bus or a student makes his/her quilt pertaining to school. Gainesville High School has been awarded as one of five "High Flying Schools" in Georgia! This is a prestigious national award and a great honor to be chosen. New Holland received an Honorable Mention Award!
Gainesville High Schools and Gainesville College's partnership in the "Near Peer Project" was the emphasis for this award.
Gainesville High School Football Team finished in third place in the final Georgia Associated Press Poll for 3-AAA schools. The future looks bright for next year.

The Times Athlete of the Week Honor Roll
Shaquan Cantrell-Scored 25 points and had nine rebounds in a win over Oconee County. Scored 18 points in a loss to East Hall.
Kane Smith - Scored 19 points in a loss to East Hall.
The Gainesville Boys Basketball Team beat Oconee County 68-45. Shaquan Cantrell scored a team-high 25 points with nine rebounds. Caleb Hayman (13 points), Deshaun Watson (12 points) and Chase England (11 points) all scored in double figures.
