Strategies for Achievement of District Goals 2006-2007

The following strategies will be used to address the district wide goals for school year 2006-2007:

I.                    95% of students meeting expectations

·        Set a higher standard for ALL students at GHS on the GHSGT by  establishing an internal minimum standard of 516 on the ELA and Mathematics sections of the GHSGT.

·        Elimination of lower tracks and lower expectations in the academic core.  ALL students expected to pursue a CP course of study in the academic core

·        Eliminate the inappropriate use of TCP for tracking purposes.  TCP will be encouraged in addition to not in lieu of CP.  Students will be counseled to pursue dual seal opportunities.

·        On-going school-based professional development on application of differentiated instruction in the classroom to reach ALL children.  Create the expectation that ALL children can learn.

·        Emphasize the teacher is the BEST safety net.  GHS will provide internal safety nets, as well as, external safety nets.

·        Utilize the new Credit Recovery Lab (established in March) to proactively provide assistance to students in need of GHSGT support.  All students will be assessed utilizing the GHSGT Modules which give us a prescription of exactly what students need.  Students who are determined the most at-risk will be scheduled into the lab for 9 weeks. WE WILL TAKE A PROACTIVE APPROACH!!!

·        Continue to disaggregate student performance data by ethnicity.  Continue to identify and proactively provide additional support to students in need.

·        Continue to pre/post test all EOCT courses.  Accountability is critical to our success.

·        Continue the standards-based initiatives and alignment to ensure students get the same academic opportunities.

·        Increase relationships, relevance, and rigor through the development of theme-based academies of interest.

II.                  75% exceeding expectations

·        Everything mentioned in section I.

·        Increase the number of students exceeding the state graduation requirement of 500 on GHSGT.

·        Create an incentive program to reward all students who exceed expectations on the first attempt of the GHSGT/GHSWT.

·        Increase the number of students pursuing a college-prep course of study.

·        Increase post-secondary educational opportunities for accelerated students by developing an on-site, web-based, Accelerated Learning Lab for advanced students.

III.                100% of faculty caring every day for every child

·        Continue creating the culture of C.A.R.E.  The expectation is faculty and staff will CARE for GHS students as if they are their own.

·        CARE enough to develop relationships, relevance and rigor for every child.

·        On-going monitoring and focus of CARE will be emphasized in all leadership team, and school-based meetings.

·        Hold faculty accountable for consistent positive interaction with students, staff, parents and community.

·        CARE enough to accept NO EXCUSES!

IV.               Hiring and recruiting minority teachers

·        Continue to seek minority candidates through GHS teacher referrals, college contacts, and community.

V.                 Awards Sought in 2006 – 2007

·        We will seek invitation to apply for Georgia School of Excellence Award

·        We will apply for National School of Distinction.
