Jace Windom
('06) Wins North Alabama Classic
Congratulations to former Red
Elephant golfer Jace Windom on winning the North Alabama Classic
on October 14. Jace, a 2006 graduate and current West Georgia
golfer, shot rounds of 71-67 (6-under) to lead his team to a
second place finish in the tournament. He was also named to the
All-Tournament Team.
This was Jace's first tournament
at West Georgia after a stellar two-year career at Wallace State College,
and his 3rd overall collegiate victory.

Red Elephant Golfers Sweep Gainesville City Junior Golf Championships
Rising
senior Justin Cochran birdied the first playoff hole to win
the 2008 Gainesville
City Junior Championship (15-18 year old division)
Cochran shot 75 in regulation to tie with North Hall’s Jimmy Lloyd. Jake
Martin, also a rising senior at GHS, finished third with a 79.
Gainesville Middle’s Pep Brown shot 82 to win the 13-14 year-old division.
Spencer Ralston (Centennial Arts Academy) shot 42 to
win the 11-12 year-old division. Sims Griffith (43), and Lawson King (48)
also placed.

Former and Current Red Elephants Lead Field at the City-County
Championship
Former
Red Elephant Will Peeples won the 2008 CGC City-County Championship with his
three day total of 213 (3-under par). Former GHS standout Sam Hulsey
finished second, and rising senior Justin Cochran shot a 71 to vault into a

Jace
Windom named Ping All-American
Former Red Elephant Jace
Windom (2006) was named to the second-team NJCAA PING All-American roster
for his performance at Wallace State Community College this season. He has
signed a scholarship with the University of West Georgia.
Windom finished the season with one tournament win, three All-Tournament
Team honors, and five top 10 finishes.

Florida Standout Kyle Scott "Schools" The Herd on Golf
Rising sophomore at the
University of West Florida standout Kyle Scott is assisting with The Herd
and the Gainesville High School golf programs this summer. Kyle, who
hails from South Africa, recently conducted a clinic for both age groups of
The Herd and demonstrated various practice techniques and shots.
Kyle was
named to the NCAA Division II First-Team All-American list and his team won
the NCAA Division II National Championship this season.

Cochran Cards a Top 30 Finish at the Future Masters
Rising
Senior Justin Cochran finished tied for 27th out of 220 golfers in one of
the strongest junior golf fields in the nation. Justin shot rounds of
73-73-74 for a +10 total on the par-70 Dothan Country Club layout. Ollie
Scheniderjans (2011) of Powder Springs, Georgia, won the tournament on the
seventh playoff hole for his first Future Masters title.

Andrew Reece is UGA Putting Champ!
Rising junior Andrew Reece
fought off all challengers at Chris Haack's Bulldog Golf Camp recently.
Reece one-putted four of his final nine holes to defeat Mike Czarnomski from
St. Pius. The entire camp was in attendance and on bleachers cheering
him on. More information in

Former Red Elephant Standout Jace Windom Signs With
the University of West Georgia
Jace Windom, a 2006 graduate of GHS, recently signed a full scholarship
with the University of West Georgia in Carrollton. Windom, who spent
the last two years as a standout at Wallace State Junior College in
Hanceville, Alabama, will participate in the NJCAA National Championship May
20-23 in Huntsville, Alabama.

Red Elephants Post a Third Place Finish at the Region 7AAA Championship

Justin Cochran fires a 75, Jake Martin a 79, Jack Seals an 82, and sophomore Andrew Reece an 85 to finish 3rd out of 11 teams at the Region 7AAA Tournament. The 321 total was the lowest of the year for GHS, and they missed qualifying for the state championship by 4 strokes. With nearly everyone returning, 2008-2009 looks promising for the Red Elephants!
