The Parent Connection – Helping Your ADD/ADHD Child Succeed

ADD/ADHD and other learning disabilities are in no way to be considered labels or diagnoses for failure.  In fact, research has shown that with the implementation of minor accommodations and/or modifications, these students can soar to great heights academically, behaviorally, and socially.  Join us as we share the many ups and downs that we as parents and educators have experienced as we live, work and play with children who have learning disabilities.

The Parent Connection – Sorry! We Don’t Have Gangs, Cults & Drugs In Our Community!

Despite what many would like to believe, gangs, cults and drugs are right here in our community!  However, all of our kids are not involved in such activity.  In this session, you will learn why kids are drawn to such a culture and the price they must pay to “just say no” to gang membership. We will also explain a variety of characteristics that are associated with each gang.  The presenters will also provide a plethora of information concerning illegal drug trends that have been introduced to our teenaged society in the last 5 years or so. You don’t want to miss this connection!

The Parent Connection – Can You Hear Me Now? Internet & Cellular Phone Safety.

Our Generation Y-ers are absolutely, unbelievably and astoundingly more technologically savvy than we will ever comprehend! They are truly computer geniuses! Although this is fantastic news, there are many precautions that we as parents and educators must take in order to ensure that our kids are using technology in a positive manner, not a dangerous one.  In this session, parents and educators will be enlightened about some of the dangerous, but popular trends that some of our students are involved in concerning the internet and the cellular phones.  We will discuss topics ranging from illegal activities to inappropriate behaviors associated with these gadgets.

The Parent Connection – DON’T WAIT… There’s More!

It has been said by a wise philosopher that, “It’s not where you come from, but it’s where you’re going that makes the difference.” In other words, despite what many parents and students have heard, college is an option for just about anyone.  There are hundreds of opportunities that await your students!  Colleges and individuals award millions of dollars of scholarships to deserving students each year.  Your child can be one of them!  In this session, we will discuss a variety of steps that you and your child can take to ensure that college is not just a dream.  With a little faith and a lot of preparation, college can be a reality!

The Parent Connection – Another Test?

Parents will discover that there are more to tests than meets the eye.  Tests serve a variety of purposes, but in order to fulfill those purposes, the students taking these tests must be prepared to demonstrate to the best of their ability.  This session will provide parents with methods that have been proven effective in helping students study and prepare for exams, successfully transport the information from the head to the paper, and how to interpret what the scores from these tests mean. The CRCT will also be discussed during this meeting.
