The Gainesville City School System's attendance requirements are as follows:

EXCUSED ABSENCES:

Written justification for any absence must be submitted by the student.  In compliance with Georgia law, all pupil absences shall be classified as unexcused or illegal except for those reasons specified by this regulation.

  1. Excused absences include the following:

    1. Personal illness

    2. Death or illness in the immediate family

    3. Religious Holidays

    4. Instance where attendance by the student would be hazardous

    5. When mandated by government agency

    6. One day to register to vote

    7. Pre-arranged absence approved by an administrator

    8. Students are to be counted present when serving as page for the General Assembly

  2. Students are expected and permitted to make up all work for credit missed due to excused absences.  This regulation shall include all assignments, quizzes, and tests.

  3. Procedure

    1. Students who are absent will be responsible for submitting assignments and/or taking scheduled tests/quizzes in accordance with school rules.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES:

  1. Definition

    1. The definition of an excused absence is "absence from school with or without parent's consent for reasons other than those considered excusable."

  2. Make-up work - unexcused absences

    1. Students will be allowed to make up all work missed during an unexcused absence in accordance with school rules.  The highest grade that can be earned for all work made up, however is a 70.
