Kim Jones, born and raised in Gainesville, GA will return for her third year as the GMS Academic Team Coach. Last year the team went undefeated in the Hall County round and placed 4th in the Region competition. Mrs. Jones has also coached the boy’s soccer team at GMS for the past 3 years and cross-country for 2 years. She also coached girl’s varsity soccer at East Hall High School.
Mrs. Jones stresses the fact that not only can you excel in physical, but in mental challenges and competitions as well. The Academic Team in comprised of chosen 6th – 8th graders based on teacher recommendations and challenge competitions.
Improvement Plan for Sports
The Gainesville Middle
School Academic Team is a sponsored program whose purpose is to advance
standards of academic excellence through competition with member schools.
Gainesville Middle School will compete against Hall County schools in a
round-robin competition and then compete in a regional tournament against other
Georgia county middle schools. Participation is open to all students in good
standing.
Teams compete in the
academic areas of English, social studies, mathematics, and science. Gainesville
Middle School will send their team to each of the contests. All team members are
expected to compete at each contest.
I. Goal to Improve Image
A. All county competitions are for practice basis only, in preparation for the Regional meet.
B. Good sportsmanship and proper behavior is expected at all times.
II. Goals to Improve Performance
A. Weekly scheduled practices and mock competitions will be held after school.
IV. Action Plan to Improve Performance
A. Recruitment of academically, advanced students will continue to be priority for the success of the team.
B. Routine challenges at each grade level will keep the members at a competitive stage.
How will you measure these goals?
1st Round – Regional tournament held in January for all local county teams.
2nd Round – State competition held in February in Macon, GA to compete for state titles.
