At Wood’s Mill High School we strive to offer learning environments for students for whom more traditional schooling has not provided an optimal educational experience.  We assist students in achieving academic success while developing character and confidence.  We endeavor to develop citizens who are conscious of the importance of community.  We value the individuality of each student and realize that each student learns differently.  We feel that each student has the inherent motivation to succeed and graduate from high school, given a program that is tailored to the needs of the individual.  We strive to develop that academic program and assist students in meeting their academic and personal goals.

Academics

The bulk of academic coursework is offered online, using educational software that is keyed to the Georgia Performance Standards.  Students are pre-tested before each course, allowing the development of  a personalized course of study, eliminating wasted time studying concepts already mastered.  Teachers serve as a resource for difficult concepts and provide reinforcing activities.  Students are also involved in projects and small group activities, supervised by an instructor.  In addition to courses that comprise the academic core, all students at Wood’s Mill High School must take a Leadership elective course which has a community service project as part of its requirements.  During their last semester at Wood’s Mill School, students are expected to complete an internship in the community, exploring a potential area of future employment.

Our School Environment

Because Wood’s Mill High School tailors the curriculum to each student, the atmosphere is one of caring support.  Students can focus on their goals, both academically and personally, in an atmosphere that provides maximum support.  Our Chill Cafe provides a place for students to relax, enjoy music, discuss books, or play games.  Character education is an integral part of our instruction. Sports and extracurricular activities are minimized at this non-traditional high school, allowing students to focus on academics and ultimately, high school graduation.
