Gainesville City Schools

I have had the great fortune to speak with many of you and look forward to speaking with those whom I have not yet had the opportunity to meet.  I am so appreciative for the warm reception I have received. I am honored to serve as your new Superintendent of Schools and vow to do my very best to maintain the high standards that have been established for this office and our district.  I am devoted to seeking the answer to the simple yet most complex question we are faced with - what’s best for our Gainesville City School System students?

During the 2014-2015 school year, I look forward to learning about life in the City of Gainesville and what makes each of our schools unique and our district exceptional.  At the same time, we will be working to identify systemic processes and procedures that will allow our work to be aligned and reduce barriers for our students, faculty and staff.  We will be expanding our infrastructure to support integration and innovation with technology.  Additionally, we will be exploring avenues to enhance college and career readiness for our students.  I encourage each of our stakeholders to review our proposed Strategic Plan for District Improvement and determine how you can become an integral member of the team putting action to our mission statement: As ONE GAINESVILLE, we will inspire, nurture, challenge and prepare our students as we educate them to be successful in a 21st century global society.

I am confident that the Gainesville City School System will continue to provide an educational experience for our students of which we can all be proud.  However, schools cannot do it alone.  I am grateful for the many dedicated supporters our district has and encourage others to partner with us to make a difference in the lives of our children and our future.  Let me leave you with a quote by author Harrison Owen that has meant a lot to me and I think is applicable to all of us as we move forward:  “When the spirit of people is strong, focused, and vibrant, wonderful things happen.”  I expect to see wonderful things happen in Gainesville City Schools.

Proud to be a Red Elephant!

Wanda G. Creel, Ed.D.
