Pursuant to State Board Rule 160-4-9-.05 IEB(2), all applicants who intend to submit a charter school petition to Gainesville City School System (GCSS) for consideration, must use the Office of Charter School Compliance (OCSC) template to submit a letter of intent to both the OCSC and to Gainesville City School System. The charter petition should focus on innovative and effective student learning opportunities that do not duplicate existing GCSS programs or exist in any GCSS school.
The deadline to submit an application to Gainesville City School System is December 1, 2025 for all applicants planning to open a charter school in the district beginning in the 2026-2027 school year. GCSS will not accept any petitions after the submission deadline. As per state law, Letters of Interest must be received at least six months before the GCSS petition deadline.
The application review process will be January 2, 2026 – February 2, 2026. All decisions will be made by June 30, 2026
