Gainesville City Schools ESPLOST
In the June 2020 referendum, ESPLOST VI was approved for Gainesville City Schools, Hall County Schools, and Buford City Schools. A 20-year bond referendum was approved by the citizens of Gainesville to complete ESPLOST VI projects.
What is ESPLOST VI?
ESPLOST VI was a continuation of the ESPLOST V penny sales tax for the purpose of funding the building of schools and other capital projects, which currently collects $12 million annually. Previously completed projects included new buildings for Enota, Fair Street, and Mundy Mill.
ESPLOST FACTS:
- An extension of the current sales tax, not an additional tax
- Sales tax is paid by everyone who eats and shops in Gainesville/Hall County
- Provide modern, safe, and secure school facilities for school-aged youth

ESPLOST VI Secondary Priorities with Excess Funds:
- Gainesville High School Campus Improvements
- Exterior fencing surrounding campus
- Match existing classroom spaces to new designs (Building C)
- Update flooring, lighting, and student spaces in Pam Ware Performing Arts Center (Building D)
- Replace flooring and upgrade lighting and sound in Davis-Hill Gym (Building E)
- Renovate 40-year-old off-campus athletic venues (City Park Stadium & Ivey-Watson Field)
