As many of you are aware, we are currently seeing an increase in flu cases within the community and state. To help keep our students and staff healthy, we would like to share the following wellness reminders.
If your child visits a healthcare provider during their sickness, we ask for you to provide the school with a doctor's excuse for their absence. Please contact your child's school nurse to update them on your child's condition and for further guidance if needed. We also ask for you to not medicate your child with fever reducing medicine and then send them to school. This may mask a fever or other symptoms and cause illnessess to spread to other students and staff.
When to Stay Home:
Your child has a fever of 100.4 or greater. They should be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medications before returning to school.
Your child is coughing so much that they are having difficulty breathing, they can't participate in classroom guidance and activities, they have a fever with the cough or have significant congestion.
Your child has thrown up or had diarrhea 2 or more times in the past 24 hours.
Flu-like symptoms, such as chills, fever or body aches.
Sore throat that is accompanied by fever/chills or their throat and tonsils are bright red or have white spots on them.
Encourage your child to cough/sneeze into their sleeves and wash their hands often with soap and water.
Thank you for keeping our GCSS family healthy and well!
