Answer: If you have moved to a new address, please click on the Gainesville City School System School Attendance Zone Map to determine your new school zone or district.

Answer:  The school will change your child's enrollment to a provisional enrollment. A visit to your home will be scheduled by your school to confirm residency. If residency is confirmed, the school will then sign off on the residency affidavit in place of the landlord. If residency is not confirmed by the visit, the student will be withdrawn after the 30 day provisional enrollment expires.

Answer: You can change your address through the Parent Portal. 

Answer: You will need to provide your updated address to the school in which your child is currently enrolled; the school registrar will provide instructions on next steps if the address is not within the same attendance zone.. 

Answer: You will need to withdraw your child from their current school. Please follow these instructions to withdraw your child.

Answer: Board Policy JBC provides for a 30 day provisional enrollment. If you will be in the home within 30 days, you may enroll using the new enrollment process. Click this link to go to the New Student Enrollment Process. If it will be longer than 30 days, you will need to use the Out of District Tuition process. Click this link to go to the Out of District Tuition Process. You will receive a prorated refund after you are living in your new residence in the school zone.

IX. Provisional Enrollment

1. A student shall be enrolled on a provisional basis and allowed to attend a school for 30 calendar days while awaiting evidence of age or other local requirements. The provisional enrollment period may be extended for extenuating circumstances at the discretion of the superintendent or designee.
2. The superintendent or designee shall notify the registering parent or guardian at least 10 calendar days prior to the withdrawal of the student.
3. If evidence is not provided within this period, the superintendent or designee shall record the student withdrawn at the end of the thirtieth day.
4. The registering parent, guardian, or other person will be considered non-compliant and subject to all penalties as prescribed in O.C.G.A.  § 20-2-690.1.
5. The superintendent shall report violations to the appropriate authorities for adjudication.

Answer: A student whose parents are divorced or legally separated may enroll in the attendance zone where either parent resides provided the court has not terminated the parental rights of the parent.

If your new address is not in your current school’s attendance zone, but is still within the Gainesville City School District, you may apply for your child to remain enrolled in his/her current school (see the In-District Transfer Request webpage).

Each year during the School Choice Enrollment window, parents who live in the Gainesville City School District may apply for a K - 7 child to transfer to another school in the district. More information can be found on the In-District Transfer [Choice Enrollment] Request webpage.

Once a school is selected, the student must remain in that school for the entire school year. Please note that transfers to another school will only be approved during the school year if the student moves to an address in a different school attendance zone. No bus transportation will be provided for students attending school outside their residential attendance zone.

You can sign up at the Gainesville City Schools Downtown Office located at 332 Washington Street, Gainesville, GA 30501 beginning February 2nd – February 13th.

Students can only attend the pre-k program at their attendance zone school. For example, if you live in the Mundy Mill school attendance zone, your child is only able to attend Mundy Mill for Pre-K. If you have other children grandfathered/enrolled into another school due to school choice, enrollment for pre-k outside of your attendance zone will be based on enrollment in that specific attendance zone school.

Only students who live in the Gainesville City School district are eligible to sign-up for the GCSS Pre-K Lottery.

Your child must be 4 years old by September 1, 2026.

If your child has been enrolled in a Georgia Pre-K classroom for 30 days or more, then your child is not eligible.

You must be a resident of Gainesville City School district in order to sign up for the Pre-K Lottery.

Only students are selected from the Lottery will be able to receive a registration packet. Students who were signed up, but not selected from the Lottery will automatically be placed on the waiting list for their school attendance zone school. If you did not sign up for the Lottery, but wish to sign up for the wait list, you may come to the Gainesville City Schools Downtown Office (332 Washington Street, Gainesville, GA 30501).

You must sign up for the Pre-K Lottery beginning on February 2nd. Registration begins on Monday, February 23rd - Friday, April 3rd. Once you have been notified that your child is selected in the Lottery, you may access the Online Registration by clicking on https://www.gcssk12.net/student-registration-enrollment/newstudent. Required documents are also listed, and must be uploaded into your registration. Your Online Registration must be received and approved. After this is completed, you will make an appt. to complete your Bright From the Start registration forms at the Gainesville City Schools Downtown Office (332 Washington Street, Gainesville, GA 30501).

If your child was selected for the Lottery, you must register via the online registration link https://www.gcssk12.net/student-registration-enrollment/newstudent. Once you have completed your application and it has been submitted and approved, you will make an appointment to complete the Bright From the Start Registration forms at the GCSS Downtown Office (332 Washington Street, Gainesville, GA 30501).

If you move out of Gainesville City School District, your child is no longer eligible to attend the GCSS Pre-K Program.

GCSS offers online registration through our Infinite Campus Student Information system. Even if you complete an online registration, it will be verified if your child was selected before a final approval is given. You must complete all required documents, including the separate Bright From the Start Registration Form. You will complete Bright From the Start (in-person at the GCSS Downtown Office at 332 Washington Street, Gainesville, GA 30501) once your registration has been completed and approved. Please note: No action will be taken on your child’s enrollment unless registration is complete and all requested documents have been received.

If your child has been assigned transportation through the Sp.Ed department, you will continue to receive transportation. You may contact your child’s case manager if you have any additional questions.

Beginning the 2025-2026 school year, GCSS will no longer provide transfer bus transportation to and from another school. Transportation will ONLY be provided for your school attendance zone.  

GCSS will not provide transportation to after school programs such as karate, ballet, gymnastics, etc.  GCSS  will not have transfer buses for students to ride to another school to board an afterschool program van or daycare van. Please refer to the list of daycares that GCSS will provide transportation to in the afternoon.

GCSS will not provide transportation outside of your school attendance zone.  If you participate in school choice and are approved for a school other than your school attendance zone, you will be responsible for transporting your child to and from school.

Students are not permitted to be dropped off at a bus stop in a different school attendance zone. Students who are caught being dropped off will forfeit their choice enrollment and will be transferred to their school attendance zone.  There are no exceptions for this.

If you are a non-resident tuition student, GCSS will not provide transportation to your child. Your contract states that you are responsible for your child’s transportation to and from school.   

GCSS will only provide transportation for individual school attendance zones. If you have students in more than one elementary school, and they need transportation, you will only be provided transportation for the school attendance zone that you live in.  This does not include students who are assigned transportation through Sp.Ed. department.

Yes, but this will only apply to students who live in the school attendance zone. If you attend a school outside of your school attendance zone, you will have to provide transportation both in the morning and in the afternoon.

If your child needs to go to an address outside of your school attendance zone in the afternoons, you will have to arrange transportation for your child.  Transportation will only be provided within the school attendance zone.

If you move to a different school attendance zone, and will need transportation, you will need to request a transfer to the school that resides in your new school attendance zone.  We will no longer provide transfer bus transportation between schools.

GCSS will provide transportation to designated daycares.  Please contact the Department of Transportation @ 770-536-8312 to confirm if your child’s current daycare is on the designated list. 

If you move outside of the GCSS district, you will have to withdraw your child and enroll them in your new school district.  You do have the option to submit a non-resident tuition application form, which will go through an approval process.
